High-Tech in double pack Vertical machining centers DZ 15
The new double spindle center for the highest productivity
The CHIRON double-spindle center DZ 15 W for simultaneous machining of two workpieces in one working cycle is celebrating its introduction at the Metav. In combination with the super-fast 0/180° workpiece changing device, this latest CHIRON development can hardly be bettered with regard to productivity. The workpiece changing device has a clamping surface of 2 x 660 x 400 mm2 and changes workpieces weighing up to 400 kg in 2.4 secs, during which the CHIRON speed control reacts to the different workpiece weights and maintains the change-over times constant, irrespective of the load. But the automatic tool changer, with 2 x 12 SK 40 or HSK 63 tool tapers, is even faster and stands out with its 0.9 secs. tool changing time and 1.9 secs. chip to chip time. Rapid feeds of 40 m in all axes, acceleration of 0,5 g and spindle speeds of 10500 rpm (options: rapid feeds up to 60 m/min with 1 g aceleration and spindle speeds of 12000 and 20000 rpm) are further factors, which emphasize that speed is a major factor at CHIRON. The extremely stiff moving column construction with optimized chip clearance and highly dynamic AC motors of 2 x 90 Nm (otion 2 x 180 Nm) enable the most respectable milling performances to be achieved. A travel range of 300 x 400 x 425 mm (X-Y-Z) and a spindle spacing of 250 mm in the X-axis ensure that the machine can be used for a wide spectrum of parts production. The inwards opening doors and the integrated control panel enhance the extremely compact and space-saving construction of this machine, despite the relatively extensive travel range. The consequent separation of the working area from the rest of the machine enables chips, coolant and vapors to be directed away directly at their place of origin.
The specially designed working area, with it s smooth and almost vertical walls, which direct any chips direct into the chip disposal system, ensure that this machine is ideally suitable for dry machining. However, the machine is nevertheless suitable for use with cooling lubricants or minimal quantity lubrication and has an internal coolant supply through the spindle as well as external coolant nozzles. The extremely practical design for low maintenance operation forms yet another new feature of this machine, with the machine having digital direct drives without limit switches and obviating oiling of the pneumatic elements. The coolant supply, for removal of the chips, is either not required at all or only in small quantities, and the new, high-performance linear guides with integrated lubricant reservoir require maintenance only every three years. Comments: These machines are 2 years old and are worth around 400k each per the manufacturing engineer. He said they will be available in around 7-8 months when the transfer line is retrofitted to run these parts in addition to what it now runs.
